• The University Department of Rural Economics & Co-operation established in the year 1956 at the behest of the Indian Planning Commission and the Reserve Bank of India has conducted about 2000 dissertations based on field-work survey by the students.
  • Some of these reports have been consulted by foreign noted economists like Michel Lipton, the co-author of the Asian Drama and other researchers on Rural Economic Problems.
  • These reports have also been kept in the departmental library for consultation as reference materials.
  • More than 100 Ph. D. and D. Litt. studies have also been successfully completed under the supervisions of the faculty of the department.
  • Besides about a dozen Major Research Project have been sponsered/financed by Planning Commission, UGC, ICSSR, and other funding institution.
  • Department has the proud privilege of organizing scores of national and regional level seminars, conferences, workshops, symposia, dialogues from time to time with the financial support from the UGC, ICSSR, Planning Commision, Commercial Banks, NTPC, Coal India and the University etc.
  • The department has been able to achieve these distinctions on account of its sincere and devoted faculty and rich library.
  • In recognition of such distinct academic activities of the department comprising both teaching and research, the Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India has setup Agro-Economic Research Centre for Bihar and Jharkhand in the year 1996 at Bhagalpur which has been functioning as the sister-institution of this department. In a very short span of time this centre has recognized as a CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE byt he Ministry of Agriculture, Govt, of India.
